I t a l y
¡ Oh grande, oh poderosa, oh sacrosanta
alma ciudad de Roma! A ti me inclino,
devoto, humilde y nuevo peregrino
a quien admira ver belleza tanta.
Persiles y Sigismunda
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Oh great, oh mighty, oh sacrosanct soul city of Rome!
I bow to you devoted, humble and new pilgrim who admires to see so much beauty.
Your sight, which is ahead of your fame, ingenuity suspends, though divine,
from the one who came to see you and adore you with tender affection and with a discalced foot.
The land of your soil, that I contemplate with the blood of martyrs mixed, It is the universal relic of the soil.
There is no part in you that does not serve as an example be holiness as well as traced from the city of God to the great model
